# Prefer Metrics: Visibility, Share of Voice, Citations

> Definitions for every core Prefer metric: Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Avg Position, Citation Share, Rank, Delta, and Sentiment mix, with scope rules.

Prefer uses a small, precise set of metrics across every dashboard. Every card, chart, and heatmap in the app is built from these definitions. Learn them once and every report becomes readable.

## The core metrics

| Metric | Definition |
| - | - |
| **Visibility Score** | Percentage of tracked answers in scope that name your brand. |
| **Share of Voice** | Your brand mentions divided by all brand mentions across scoped answers. |
| **Avg Position** | Mean position among named brands, inverted so 1 is best. |
| **Citation Share** | Citations to your domain divided by all citations in scope. |
| **Rank** | Your position within a (run, engine) group, ordered by Visibility Score. |
| **Delta** | Latest run value minus the previous run's value, per brand and engine. |
| **Sentiment mix** | Share of your brand mentions that are positive, neutral, or negative. |

## Scope: how filters change every number

Every metric is always evaluated inside a **scope**. Scope is set by the Filter Bar at the top of any Monitor page and includes:

* **Date range**
* **Engine** (multi-select)
* **Topic**
* **Persona**
* **Region**
* **Tag**

Change a filter and every metric on the page recomputes for the narrowed set of answers. There is no hidden global filter and no cached value that ignores your selection.

## How Delta is labelled

Deltas are always **vs previous run**, never "vs yesterday". A run is the unit of time in Prefer, because engines can shift between hours. If you trigger two runs in one day, you will see two deltas.

<Tip>
  When comparing yourself to a competitor, filter down to one engine at a time. Blended numbers can hide large swings on a single model.
