# Can I cancel or change my Prefer plan anytime?

> Yes. Prefer self-serve plans have no minimum term. Upgrades apply at once, downgrades at renewal, and you cancel in the billing portal.

Yes. Prefer's self-serve plans have no minimum term, so you can cancel anytime in the billing portal. Upgrades apply immediately; downgrades take effect at your next renewal, so you keep the allowance you already paid for. Prefer Managed is different: a 90-day initial term, then month to month.

## Every kind of plan change, and when it takes effect

Prefer separates moves that give you more from moves that give you less. **On Prefer, an upgrade takes effect the moment you make it, while a downgrade or cancellation waits until the end of the period you already paid for.** There is no minimum term on Starter, Growth or Scale.

| Change | When it applies | Where you make it |
| - | - | - |
| Upgrade (for example Starter to Growth) | Immediately | Billing portal |
| Downgrade (for example Scale to Growth) | At your next renewal | Billing portal |
| Cancel a self-serve plan | Anytime; no minimum term | Billing portal |
| Pause an agency client | Billing for that client ends with the current cycle | Agency console |
| End Prefer Managed | Anytime after the 90-day initial term | With your Prefer strategist |

The billing portal becomes available once a card is on file. During the free trial there is no card and nothing to cancel: if the trial ends without an upgrade, tracking pauses and your data is kept.

## How to cancel a Prefer plan

1. **Export** anything you want to keep first. Data export is listed on Growth, Scale and Enterprise; on Starter, copy what you need from the dashboard.
2. **Open** the billing portal from your Prefer workspace.
3. **Choose** cancel, or pick a smaller plan if you only want to cut cost. A downgrade keeps tracking running at lower volume.
4. **Check** the confirmation and your renewal date. Plans are billed in advance, and if anything about the timing is unclear, [support@tryprefer.com](mailto:support@tryprefer.com) can confirm it.

**Prefer does not offer a money-back guarantee; the risk-free way to test it is the 7-day trial, which needs no card.** The Prefer pricing page lists "Cancel anytime" next to the trial, and the terms of service say the same.

## Managed and annual plans follow their own rules

Two cases need a second look before you decide:

* **Annual plans** are one invoice for 12 months, billed in advance. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the Prefer terms do not describe partial refunds of an annual invoice, so ask the team before you buy annual if that matters to you.
* **Prefer Managed** starts with a 90-day initial term so the work has time to land, then runs month to month with no auto-renewal. You keep every asset produced, even if you leave.

If you are cancelling because you hit a limit, compare the next tier on [Prefer pricing](https://tryprefer.com/pricing/) first; Prefer never bills overage, so a limit is a prompt to upgrade, not a charge. ## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does Prefer give refunds if I cancel?">
    Prefer does not offer a money-back guarantee, and its terms describe none. Plans are billed in advance and you can cancel anytime; the card-free 7-day trial is the way to test Prefer before paying. For a specific billing question, contact [support@tryprefer.com](mailto:support@tryprefer.com).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="If I downgrade Prefer mid-cycle, do I lose features straight away?">
    No. Prefer applies downgrades at your next renewal, so you keep the higher plan's history and allowance until the period you paid for ends. Upgrades are the opposite: they apply immediately.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can an agency stop paying for one client without cancelling Prefer?">
    Yes. On Prefer's agency track you pause a client workspace instead of cancelling. Tracking for that client stops, billing for it ends with the current cycle, and its data and settings are kept for when you resume.
