Prefer tracks Google AI Overviews on every plan and in the free audit, and connects Search Console and GA4 so you can set AI citations beside clicks. Yes. Prefer records which brands each Overview names and which pages it cites, and it connects Google Search Console and GA4 on every plan so you can read those citations next to your organic clicks. *Last updated 3 October 2026* ## AI Overviews are on every Prefer plan Prefer tracks Google AI Overviews on Starter, Growth, Scale and Enterprise. It is also one of the three engines in the free audit, with ChatGPT and Gemini. So it is the one Google surface you can see in Prefer before you pay anything. For each tracked prompt, Prefer stores the full Overview text, every brand it names in order, every URL it cites, and the tone of each brand mention. Those roll up into Visibility, Share of Voice and Citation Share for AI Overviews alone, on the Overview dashboard's per-engine heatmap. ## What our AI Overview data shows **AI Overviews are not stable, and they are not just the top ten blue links.** Our capture of 80 questions on 13 September 2026 found three things worth knowing before you read any AI Overview number: | Finding | Result | | - | - | | Questions that showed an AI Overview | 75 of 80 | | Sources per Overview, median | 8 | | Overview sources that were page-one organic results | 41.4% | | Pages cited again for the same question five days later | 48% | That last row is the reason to track rather than check once. Fewer than half the pages an Overview cited were still there five days later. A single screenshot is a weak basis for a decision. ## Why Search Console matters here **Prefer connects Google Search Console and GA4 on every plan, so you can put AI Overview citations next to organic clicks.** AI Overviews sit on the normal results page. That makes them the AI surface closest to your existing SEO data. When a page wins an Overview citation, the connected data lets you check whether clicks to that page moved too. ## How to use it 1. **Start with the free audit.** It includes AI Overviews and needs no account. 2. **Connect Google.** In Settings, then Integrations, click Connect Google and pick your property. 3. **Filter to AI Overviews.** Use the Filter Bar on any Monitor page to see Overview numbers alone. 4. **Check the cited pages.** On a prompt's detail page, open View all chats and look at which URLs the Overview cited instead of yours. Prefer connects Google Search Console and GA4 on every plan and pulls your search performance and traffic, so you can set AI citations beside organic clicks. Search Console's own help page lists AI Overviews and AI Mode as included in its generative AI report, with no split by feature, so neither tool can split those impressions out for you. Prefer can only record an Overview that Google shows. Google says it shows one only when its systems judge it adds something to classic Search, and in our September 2026 capture 5 of 80 questions had none.
