# Does Prefer write content for me?

> Yes. Prefer drafts AEO articles in Content Studio on every plan, from 15 a month on Starter. Drafts are first drafts a person should edit.

Yes. Prefer drafts AEO articles in Content Studio: 15 a month on Starter, 75 on Growth and 225 on Scale. Each draft is researched against a prompt you want to win and scored as it is written, but it is a first draft that a person should edit before it goes live.

## What Prefer writes, and how much

**Prefer writes first drafts of answer-engine articles on every self-serve plan, and the monthly allowance is the main thing that changes between tiers.** Starter includes 15 AI articles a month, Growth includes 75, and Scale includes 225. Enterprise is custom. Agency clients each get a Growth-level workspace, so each active client carries the Growth allowance.

The writing happens in Content Studio, under Act. You start a run from Create Content and fill a short brief:

1. **Pick the type and length.** For example a comparison page or a how-to article.
2. **Name the prompt you want to win.** This is the buyer question the page should answer, ideally one you already track.
3. **Set persona, tone and language.** These shape the voice of the draft.
4. **Toggle the research tools.** Google Search and reference page analysis ground the draft in what currently ranks and gets cited.
5. **Choose Generate or Self-write.** Generate hands the whole draft to the agent. Self-write keeps you at the keyboard with live guidance.

A Generate run moves through research, analysis, brief building, drafting and scoring. You can watch each stage and cancel if the direction is wrong. When it finishes, the draft opens in the shared Editor.

## What makes a Prefer draft different from a chat window

**Prefer drafts against a brief built from the AI answers you are losing, not from a one-line prompt.** The Create Content page describes the order of work: read the answers that beat you, read the sources they cite, read your own docs, then plan. Prices, limits and dates are pulled from your docs or a live page with the fetch date attached. If the agent cannot find a source for a claim, it leaves a marked gap for you to fill rather than inventing one.

The Editor then gives you tools a plain chat window does not:

* SEO and AEO gauges plus a 5-step check on coverage, terms, facts, intent and structure.
* A plagiarism scan before you publish.
* Featured image generation and three social post variants for promotion.
* Version history and comments, so a team can review the draft together.

## What you still do yourself

**Every Prefer article is a first draft, and Prefer's own pricing FAQ says it still needs a person to check it and put your voice on it.** That is deliberate honesty, not a hedge. AI engines cite pages with facts they can verify, and only you know which of your product facts are current. Plan for an editor's time on each piece.

Publishing is also on you on the self-serve plans. The [Content Studio docs](/docs/act/content-studio) say the WordPress publish step inside the Editor is not live yet, so for now you export the content and publish it yourself. If you want the writing, editing and publishing handled end to end, that is what Prefer Managed covers. Its team drafts articles on the platform, has people edit them, and publishes them to your CMS with schema and internal links. The exact monthly scope is listed on the [Prefer Managed page](https://tryprefer.com/prefer-managed/).

## Where the topics come from

You can name any prompt, but the best topics come from Prefer's own data. [Content Gap](https://tryprefer.com/platform/content-gap/) shows tracked prompts where your site has no page that ranks or gets cited, and each gap report can seed a Create Content run with the prompt, title and URL already filled in. After the page ships, Prefer re-runs the prompts it was written for so you can see whether it moved anything. ## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Are Prefer's articles ready to publish as they come out?">
    No, and Prefer says so on its own pricing page. A Prefer draft is a first draft: it still needs a person to check the facts, cut what does not fit and put your voice on it. Budget editing time for every article when you compare costs.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I write the article myself and use Prefer only for scoring?">
    Yes. Prefer's Self-write mode lets you build the outline and write in the Editor while the SEO and AEO gauges update as you type. You get the brief and the scoring without the generated draft.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will Prefer write and publish content for me with no work on my side?">
    Only on Prefer Managed. On the self-serve plans Prefer drafts and you edit and publish. On Prefer Managed the team drafts articles on the platform, has people edit them, and publishes them to your CMS for you.
