# How do I choose which prompts Prefer tracks?

> Prefer gives you four ways to pick prompts: the onboarding wizard, a curated library, an AI assistant, and your own list. How to use each.

Prefer gives you four ways to choose prompts. The onboarding wizard drafts roughly 30 from your domain, category and market; the curated library groups more by topic and intent; an AI assistant drafts prompts from a buyer question you describe; and you can paste your own, one at a time or in bulk.

## Four ways to choose prompts

Prefer gives you four routes to a prompt list, and most teams use more than one. You start with prompts drafted for you, then add the questions only your team knows buyers ask.

| Route | Where | Best for |
| - | - | - |
| Onboarding wizard | First login | A first set of roughly 30, drafted from your domain, category and market |
| Curated library | Monitor, Prompts, Add prompts (left pane) | Browsing ready prompts by topic and intent |
| AI assistant | Add prompts (right pane) | Turning a buyer question you describe into prompt drafts |
| Manual entry | Add prompts | Pasting your own list, one at a time or in bulk |

**Prefer's onboarding drafts roughly 30 prompts for you, and you review, rename and enable each one before anything runs.** So you are never stuck with prompts you did not pick.

## Step by step

1. **Prepare four inputs.** Have your domain, a short positioning statement, 2 to 5 competitors, and the regions and personas your buyers come from. The wizard asks for these.
2. **Review the generated topics.** The wizard builds topics from your domain and category. Rename any that do not match how buyers talk.
3. **Edit the prompt list.** Turn off prompts that do not fit your business. Rename ones with odd phrasing.
4. **Add from the library.** In Monitor, then Prompts, click Add prompts and browse by topic and intent.
5. **Draft gaps with the assistant.** Describe a buyer situation, such as a finance lead comparing tools for a multi-entity company, and accept the drafts that fit.
6. **Paste in your own.** Questions from sales calls and support tickets are often the best prompts you have.
7. **Save.** Click Save prompts. They join the next tracking run.

## What makes a good prompt

**A good prompt is a question a real buyer would type into an AI assistant before choosing a product like yours.** The docs give "best CRM for small teams" as the model. Mix three kinds. Category questions ask for the best tools. Comparison questions put you next to a named rival. Problem questions describe the job without naming any product.

Keep [prompt slots](/docs/help/what-is-a-tracked-prompt-in-prefer) in mind. Each prompt in each country uses one slot, so a prompt list that fits one market may not fit three. Group what you choose by topic and persona, which costs nothing, so you can read results per subject later.
