# How many competitors can Prefer track?

> Prefer tracks 3 competitors on Starter, 10 on Growth and 30 on Scale; Enterprise is custom.

Prefer tracks 3 named competitors on Starter, 10 on Growth and 30 on Scale, and Enterprise is custom. Every tracked rival is measured on the same answers and engines as you: Visibility, Share of Voice, Citation Share and Sentiment, side by side.

*Last updated 3 October 2026*

Prefer sets a tracked-competitor allowance on each self-serve plan, and it rises with the tier. Prefer measures each tracked rival on exactly the same answers and engines as your own brand, so the comparison is like for like. Below is the allowance per plan, what a tracked competitor gets, and how to pick the ones that matter.

## The allowance on each plan

**Prefer includes 3 tracked competitors on Starter, 10 on Growth and 30 on Scale.** The /pricing comparison lists Enterprise as unlimited, set during the custom quote.

| Plan | Tracked competitors |
| - | - |
| Starter | 3 |
| Growth | 10 |
| Scale | 30 |
| Enterprise | Custom, listed as unlimited |

The engine list does not change with the tier. All 5 engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode) are on every self-serve plan, so a rival on Starter is measured across the same engines as a rival on Scale. At the cap, Prefer blocks the add and asks you to upgrade. There is no overage billing.

## What a tracked competitor gets

**Each tracked rival appears in all 4 tabs of the Competitors console, with the same metrics you get.**

* **Compare:** a side-by-side matrix of Visibility, Share of Voice, Citation Share and Sentiment. Your row carries a "YOU" badge and the leading cell in each column is highlighted.
* **Opportunities:** prompts where that rival is named and you are not, with the engine and a handoff to the Action Center.
* **Sources:** which domains cite which brands, split per engine.
* **Updates:** a change log of notable moves, such as new prompts entered, big Share of Voice jumps and citation gains or losses.

Here is how that reads in practice. Say a rival is named in 45 of 150 tracked answers and you are named in 15. The Compare matrix shows a 30% against 10% Visibility gap, and the Opportunities tab lists the 30 or more prompts where they appear without you.

Click any brand name to open its Competitor Profile: Visibility trend, engine mix, top prompts, cited sources and recent moves. Every metric opens an Evidence Drawer with the full answer text, so you can verify the number yourself.

## How to choose which rivals to track

Prefer finds many competitors on its own, because it extracts every brand named in every answer. Your slots are best spent on the brands that matter most. A simple routine:

1. Start with the free audit's competitor table, which lists the rivals AI names most often for your topics.
2. Add the 2 or 3 brands your sales team loses deals to, even if AI rarely names them yet.
3. Fill the rest with the brands that hold the most Share of Voice in your field.
4. Review the Updates tab after a few runs and replace a slot if a new name keeps appearing.

To add one, open Monitor, then Competitors, then Compare, and click Add competitor. Enter the brand name and domain; Prefer suggests matches it has already seen in answers. The brand joins the next tracking run's rollup. The [Competitors docs](/docs/monitor/competitors) cover each tab in detail.

## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What happens when I hit my competitor limit in Prefer?">
    Prefer blocks the add and shows an upgrade prompt. There is no overage charge, so you cannot spend more than your plan by accident. On brand plans, more competitor slots means moving up a tier.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will Prefer show brands I am not tracking?">
    Yes. Prefer extracts every brand named in each answer, so other brands still appear in places such as the other-products chips on a prompt and the Share of Voice field. Adding a brand as a tracked competitor guarantees it gets the full side-by-side treatment in the Competitors console.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do agency clients in Prefer get their own competitor allowance?">
    Yes. On Prefer's agency track each active client gets a full, isolated Growth-level workspace, which includes 10 tracked competitors for that client.
