# What counts as a tracked prompt in Prefer?

> In Prefer, a tracked prompt is one prompt tracked in one country. All five engines run inside that one slot; only countries multiply the count.

In Prefer, a tracked prompt is one buyer question tracked in one country. All five engines run inside that one slot, so a prompt counts once, not once per engine. Countries do multiply: the same prompt in three countries uses three slots. The allowance is pooled across your workspace.

## One question, one country, one slot

Prefer counts a tracked prompt as one question tracked in one country. That is the unit your plan allowance is measured in. "Best expense management software" tracked in the US is one slot, whatever engines answer it.

**In Prefer, engines never multiply the count; only countries do.** ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode all answer the same prompt inside that one slot. [Many tools](https://tryprefer.com/learn/answers/which-ai-engines-do-visibility-tools-track/) charge per engine or meter engines separately. Prefer does not.

Your allowance is 30 on Starter, 150 on Growth and 500 on Scale, pooled across the workspace. The free trial caps tracked prompts at 30, whichever plan you trial.

## What does not count

**Grouping costs nothing in Prefer: topics, personas, views and tags organise prompts without using slots.** A topic is a cluster like "CRM comparison". A persona is the buyer a prompt represents. A view is a saved group you build for a campaign or a product line. A tag is a label you can filter on. Use as many as help you read the results.

Archived prompts do not count either. When you archive one, it stops using a slot on the next run. Its history stays, so you never lose a trend line.

## How to check your usage

1. **Open Monitor, then Prompts.** The Prompts tab lists every active prompt with its status.
2. **Count prompt and country pairs,** not engines. That is your usage.
3. **Archive what you no longer need** from the row's menu to free slots for the next run.
