What the report shows
The Content Gap report is computed from your latest completed tracking run and your project’s indexed page count. It includes:- Overall coverage percentage — a weighted measure of how many tracked prompts your brand already covers with owned or cited content.
- Per-topic coverage — each tracked prompt shows its coverage status, query volume, content type, and intent classification.
- Missing prompts — topics where your brand has zero visibility in AI answers.
- Competitor ownership — which rivals own the space for each missing prompt, based on who AI engines currently cite.
- Suggested article briefs — AI-generated recommendations for the page or content piece most likely to win citations for that topic.
Coverage is answer-weighted: a prompt where you appear in AI answers counts more heavily than one where you only rank in traditional results. The report uses real tracking data, not simulated estimates.
Running a content gap analysis
1
Open Content Gap
Navigate to Act > Content Studio > Content Gap. The page loads the latest coverage data automatically.
2
Review the gauge and table
The half-gauge at the top shows your overall coverage. Below it, the prompt-coverage table lists every tracked prompt with a coverage ring, query count, type, and intent.
3
Open a gap report
Click any row with low or zero coverage to open the Gap Report modal. It shows an AI summary of why the gap exists, which competitors are winning, and a recommendation card with the suggested content angle.
4
Refresh if needed
If you have added new prompts or published new pages since the last tracking run, click Refresh to pull the latest data.
Turning a gap into a draft
Once you identify a gap, you can seed a content run directly from the report.1
Choose the action
In the Gap Report modal, click Optimise page if you already have a relevant page that needs improvement, or look for the seed option that matches your workflow.
2
Land in the agent modal
Prefer opens the agent configuration modal pre-filled with the prompt, title, and URL from the gap report. Review the brief and adjust tone, persona, or tools if needed.
3
Run the agent
Submit the run. The agent will research the topic, analyze reference pages, build a brief, and produce a draft you can refine in the Editor.
4
Publish and track
When the draft is ready, publish it and wait for the next tracking run to measure whether the gap closes.
How coverage is calculated
For each tracked prompt, Prefer checks the latest completed tracking run:- Visibility — whether your brand is mentioned or cited in AI answers.
- Queries — the number of result-row fan-outs for that prompt.
- Type and intent — derived from funnel stage, intent class, and source signals in your project configuration.
Content Gap does not persist a separate data model. It is computed on read from your tracking results, so the report is always current with your latest run.
