TL;DR

Ahrefs Brand Radar is the pick for teams that already run Ahrefs for SEO, with seven engines including Claude on any paid plan, a 455M-prompt research index and links to Ahrefs' backlink data, though its plans hold only 5 to 20 tracked prompts before you buy check packages; Scrunch is the pick for enterprises and agencies running several brands, with 125 prompts on four engines, site audits and agent-traffic analytics from a flat $250 a month. Prefer, our product, starts at $24 a month for five engines and 30 prompts, and writes 15 AI articles a month on that plan.

The split is suite module versus dedicated platform. Ahrefs sells Brand Radar two ways: Custom Prompts, included in every paid plan but metered by checks (Lite's 150 a month cover 5 prompts on one platform daily), and the AI Visibility Index, $199 a month per platform or $699 for all six, for researching any brand with no setup. Scrunch sells flat plans: Core at $250 tracks 125 prompts on four engines, and Enterprise reaches nine. Ahrefs measures only; Scrunch adds site audits, a monthly page optimization and AXP on Enterprise. Scrunch itself says it is built to sit next to an SEO tool, not replace one.

Ahrefs is a mature SEO suite (keyword research, site audits, a large backlink index) that added Brand Radar to track how brands appear in AI answers. Brand Radar reports mentions, citations, AI share of voice and estimated impressions weighted by search demand, and it can be bought standalone with an Ahrefs Free account (ahrefs.com, rendered 19 September 2026). Its G2 score, 4.5 out of 5 across 714 reviews, covers the whole suite, not the module. Scrunch (founded 2023, Salt Lake City) is a dedicated AI-visibility platform that Sitecore announced it was acquiring in June 2026, a deal Bloomberg reported at about $225M; it still runs standalone with its own pricing. It pairs monitoring with site audits, Agent Traffic (AI crawler analytics from CDN logs) and AXP, which serves AI agents an optimized version of your pages, and it says it is trusted by 500+ brands and agencies (its own figure). Ahrefs vs Scrunch, answered

Is Ahrefs Brand Radar or Scrunch better?

Neither is better across the board: Ahrefs Brand Radar is better if you already run Ahrefs for SEO, with seven engines including Claude on any paid plan and a 455M-prompt research index, and Scrunch is better for enterprises and agencies running several brands, with 125 prompts on four engines, site audits and agent-traffic analytics for $250 a month. Prefer, our product, starts at $24 a month for five engines and 15 AI articles, so weigh that we build it. Pick Ahrefs to add AI visibility to your SEO workflow, Scrunch for a dedicated platform across brands.

Which is cheaper, Ahrefs Brand Radar or Scrunch?

Ahrefs is cheaper to start and Scrunch buys more prompts per dollar: Ahrefs Lite is $129 a month with 5 tracked prompts, while Scrunch Core is $250 a month with 125 (both checked 19 September 2026). Prefer starts lower than both, at $24 a month for 30 prompts on five engines. On Ahrefs, more prompts come as check packages from $50 a month, and the AI Visibility Index is $199 a month per platform or $699 for all six; Scrunch has no add-on meter, you move up a plan.

Which AI engines do Ahrefs Brand Radar and Scrunch track?

Ahrefs Brand Radar tracks seven engines through Custom Prompts on any paid plan (Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude), and its Index covers the first six; Scrunch Core tracks four (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot) and Enterprise nine, adding Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Grok. Prefer, our product, tracks five on every plan: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, with Claude on Enterprise. On Ahrefs, Claude uses 8 checks per update; Scrunch's help center notes Grok no longer contributes citation data (checked 19 and 23 September 2026).

What would it cost to track 125 prompts on four engines in Ahrefs?

By Ahrefs' own metering rule (one check per prompt, per platform, per update), 125 prompts on four engines daily is about 15,000 checks a month, which is more than the $100 Growth package's 7,000 and within the $250 Scale package's 25,000, before overage. Prefer, our product, includes 30 prompts on five engines in its $24 Starter plan, with no check meter. 125 prompts is what Scrunch's $250 Core includes, so at daily updates the two land in a similar range; switching Ahrefs to weekly or monthly updates cuts the checks. This is our arithmetic on Ahrefs' published rule, not a quote.

Do Ahrefs Brand Radar or Scrunch act on what they find?

Scrunch does some of it: its Core plan includes five site audits and one page optimization a month with basic content generation, and Enterprise adds AXP, which serves AI agents an optimized version of your pages; Ahrefs Brand Radar is measurement only, reporting mentions, citations, share of voice and gaps. Prefer, our product, writes 15 AI articles a month on its $24 Starter plan; its off-page work (Reddit, PR, placements) comes with Enterprise and Prefer Managed, not the self-serve plans. Neither Ahrefs nor Scrunch documents off-page citation work.

Can I buy Ahrefs Brand Radar without an Ahrefs plan?

Yes: Ahrefs' pricing FAQ says Brand Radar is available as a standalone tool and comes with an Ahrefs Free account (checked 19 September 2026), whereas Scrunch is only ever a standalone product. Prefer, our product, is standalone too, from $24 a month, with Search Console and GA4 connected from Starter. On Ahrefs, the Custom Prompts included free are tied to Lite and higher paid plans; standalone tracking uses the check packages from $50 a month or the $199 per-platform Index.

Who is Ahrefs Brand Radar best for?

SEO teams that already live in Ahrefs and want AI visibility next to their keyword, audit and backlink data, especially if they need Gemini, AI Mode or Claude without an enterprise contract. Prefer, our product, is the better fit for a team new to AI search that wants the tracking plus content written for it at $24 a month, rather than a whole SEO suite. Ahrefs' G2 reviewers praise the data depth and flag the price and credit meters on lower tiers.

Who is Scrunch best for?

Enterprises and agencies that track several brands, regions or pitches and want site audits, AI crawler analytics and SOC 2 Type 2 in a dedicated tool that sits beside their SEO suite. Prefer, our product, is the better fit when the need is a lower published entry at $24 a month with five engines and the content work included. Sitecore customers have an extra reason to look at Scrunch, since Sitecore now owns it.

What is the best alternative to Ahrefs Brand Radar and Scrunch?

Prefer is the best pick if you want five engines, including Gemini and both of Google's AI surfaces, and the content work in one plan with no check meter: it tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode with 30 prompts and writes 15 AI articles a month from $24, with Search Console and GA4, a free audit, a free trial and a done-for-you Managed option. It is our product, so check the sources below. The category also includes Profound, Peec AI, AthenaHQ, HubSpot AEO and Semrush's AI toolkit; see our roundup of the best AI visibility tools.
