The short answer
What answer readiness actually measures.
What makes a page quotable by AI assistants?
A quotable page states its answer first, uses clear question-shaped headings, keeps sentences short enough to lift, backs claims with numbers and sources, and is structured with lists rather than walls of text. AI assistants extract at the passage level, so the pages they cite are not the best-written, they are the best-structured: a clear answer a model can pull out without the surrounding context. This scorer runs ten of those checks against a page you paste and returns a score out of 100 with the specific fixes. It is a heuristic guide, not a guarantee of citation.

What it checks
Ten checks that decide whether a page gets quoted.
Each contributes to the score. Together they approximate whether a passage can be lifted and trusted without its surrounding page.
The first paragraph states the answer directly and briefly, so a model can lift it as the response.
Headings phrased as the questions buyers ask, the structure assistants map a query onto.
Short, declarative sentences. Long, clause-heavy sentences are hard to extract as a clean claim.
Bulleted or numbered lists that an assistant can quote as steps or options.
Specific figures, percentages and prices. Vague claims are rarely cited; numbers are.
Links or citations behind the claims, which is what makes a passage safe to quote.
A plain "X is Y" sentence for the term the page is about, the format models lift for definitions.
A recent year or an updated date, because assistants favor current sources.
Substantial enough to answer the question, without being a wall of text to skim.
A short summary a model can lift when a full read is not needed.
How to use it
Paste a page, read the score.
No account, no crawl. Paste the visible text of the page you want cited and act on the lowest-scoring checks first.
- Paste your page
- Copy the visible text of the page, as Markdown or plain text. The scorer reads what you paste; it does not fetch your URL.
- Read the score
- A score out of 100 across ten checks, with each check marked pass, partial or fail and a one-line fix.
- Fix the reds first
- Start with the failing checks. Answer-first structure and sourced claims move the number fastest.
- Re-paste and re-score
- Edit the page, paste it again, and watch the score rise. Then measure whether the citation follows.
A high score makes a page easier to quote; it does not guarantee a citation. Authority and presence off your own site still matter.
What good looks like
Structured for extraction, not just well written.
The pages assistants cite share a shape. These are the habits that produce it.
The opening sentence is the answer, not a warm-up. A model that reads only the top of the page still gets the point.
Each section header is a question a buyer asks, so the passage under it maps cleanly onto a query.
Numbers and a source behind each claim. A sourced, specific sentence is far safer for a model to quote than a vague one.
Short sentences and lists. If a passage needs three re-reads to parse, it will not be lifted.
A recent date and up-to-date facts, because assistants prefer fresh sources and quietly discount stale ones.
Questions
answer readiness questions.
What is answer readiness?
Answer readiness is how easy a page is for an AI assistant to lift and cite. It comes down to structure: an answer-first opener, question-shaped headings, short scannable sentences, sourced and specific claims, and a clear definition. A page can be well written and still score poorly if it buries the answer in prose.
How do I make my content quotable by AI?
Lead with a one-sentence answer, use headings phrased as the questions buyers ask, keep sentences short, back claims with numbers and a source, and structure with lists. Paste the page into this scorer to see which of those ten checks it fails and fix the reds first.
Does a high score guarantee a citation?
No. The score measures whether a page is easy to quote, which is necessary but not sufficient. Whether an assistant actually cites you also depends on your authority and your presence on the third-party sources it trusts. Use the AI Visibility Checker to measure the outcome.
Why can't I just enter a URL?
A browser cannot read the content of another site's page for security reasons, and this tool runs entirely in your browser with nothing sent to a server. So you paste the page text in. That also lets you score a draft before it is published.
Is the scorer free?
Yes. It is free, needs no signup, and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded. Prefer's paid product is the work that turns a quotable page into an actual citation.
What score should I aim for?
Above 80 is strong: the page states its answer, is scannable, and sources its claims. Between 60 and 80 usually means one or two structural fixes away. Below 60, start with the answer-first opener and question-shaped headings, which move the number fastest.
