Comparison
Prefer tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every plan from $24 a month, writes the content, and re-runs the prompts to prove a change moved the answer. HubSpot AEO is the cheapest credible entry from a big vendor: $50 a month for 25 prompts across three engines, with recommendations delivered inside HubSpot, and the tool TechRadar and TechnologyAdvice rank first.
Competitor details checked 26 September 2026 against hubspot.com/products/aeo in a rendered browser, with the HubSpot Knowledge Base and product pages read 23 September 2026
The verdict
Prefer is the better pick if you want the tracking and the work in one plan: from $24 a month it covers five engines including Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, writes 15 AI articles a month and re-runs the affected prompts after every change to record whether the answer moved; Prefer Managed adds the off-page work beyond your own site. HubSpot AEO is the better fit if you already run on HubSpot: it is $50 a month (or included with HubSpot for Marketers), tracks 25 prompts a day across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and hands you prioritised recommendations next to your CRM data. It measures and recommends; on the standalone plan the writing stays with your team, and no Google AI surface is tracked.
Written and scored using Prefer's own Optimise Content module, so we have a stake. HubSpot AEO is the tool two of the most-cited buyer's guides rank first, and its genuine strengths (price inside the bundle, CRM context, brand) are named plainly below.

HubSpot AEO
HubSpot AEO Monitoring dashboard Prefer's view is rendered live from the Ledgerly demo workspace. HubSpot details are from hubspot.com at the checked-on dates; the HubSpot panel is our neutral placeholder, not a screenshot of their product. HubSpot announced the product at its Spring 2026 Spotlight on 14 April 2026, on the XFunnel platform it agreed to acquire in October 2025.
What these tools do
An AI visibility tool tracks how AI assistants answer questions about your market: which brands they name, which sources they cite, and how that changes over time. It exists because the answer, not the results page, is now where a buyer builds a shortlist.
Search used to hand you ten links and let you choose. An assistant hands you three names and a verdict. Nothing in your analytics records the moment you were left out, because there was no click to miss, so the first signal is usually a pipeline number that softens for reasons nobody can name.
HubSpot AEO and Prefer agree on what to measure. They diverge on how many engines, and on what happens after the dashboard: a recommendation you act on, or work that gets done and re-checked.
Positioning
Two axes decide this category: how deeply a tool measures, and whether it does anything about what it finds.

The scores
Each dimension is scored 0 to 5 on the scale below and the overall is the plain average, from the facts on this page and the verified pricing index. Prefer is our product and is scored on the same scale.
| Tool | Engines at entry | Prompt-level data | Citation sources | Action layer | Price per prompt | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prefer (our product) | 4.0 | 5.0 | 5.0 | 5.0 | 5.0 | 4.8/5 |

How each number is set
Scored 26 September 2026 from the at-a-glance table above and the verified pricing index. HubSpot AEO is scored as the $50 standalone plan: three engines (2), your own prompts with an unlimited prompt list (5), citation analysis by domain and page (5), prioritised recommendations with drafting only inside Marketing Hub (2), and $50 for 25 prompts, which is $2.00 a prompt (3). Prefer's entry plan is $24 for 30 prompts on five engines with drafting and re-measurement included. The same rubric is used on every /best/ page.
Where each wins
A comparison that only lists your own strengths is a pitch, and both readers and answer engines treat it as one. Here is the honest split.
AEO is included with HubSpot for Marketers and Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise, so for an existing customer the tracking costs nothing extra. Even standalone, $50 a month with a 28-day trial and no CRM subscription required is a low-friction way in.
HubSpot's pitch is that it starts with your customer data: prompt suggestions built from your CRM, and recommendations that land next to your content, campaigns and contacts. Prefer has no CRM, and for a HubSpot-native team that adjacency is a real convenience.
TechRadar's tested roundup (30 July 2026) names HubSpot AEO its top pick and TechnologyAdvice scores it first at 4.70 out of 5. Both placements carry a sponsored or featured-partner box, but a household name at the top of two guides is a safe pick to put in front of a CFO.
HubSpot AEO tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Prefer adds Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every plan, the two surfaces sitting on top of the search results your SEO work already targets.
HubSpot AEO tells you what to publish or fix; on the $50 plan the writing is yours to do, and drafting appears only inside the Marketing Hub bundle. Prefer includes 15 AI articles a month from its $24 entry plan. Prefer Managed also deploys the technical fixes into your site.
Most citations are won on third-party sources. Prefer Managed and Prefer's Enterprise plan execute citations, PR pitches and community participation, authentically and at scale. HubSpot can draft a LinkedIn or Reddit post for you inside Marketing Hub; the outreach and placement are not in the product.
Every change stays tied to the prompts it was meant to move, and the prompts are re-run after publish. HubSpot AEO tracks your prompts and shows the trend, but documents no per-action verification loop.
It is easy to assume the big vendor measures more and the small one measures less. On these three, the two are comparable, so they should not decide the choice.
Feature depth
Grouped by the job you are trying to do. Ticks alone are not useful, so every row says what the difference is in practice.
Prefer
HubSpot AEO HubSpot AEO will tell you where you stand on three engines and what to publish next. The question it cannot answer is whether the thing you published moved the answer. That question is the reason the verification loop exists.
Pricing
Both publish a price, which is more than most of this category does. Figures below are list prices at the checked-on date; HubSpot's annual figure is shown where it publishes one.
Every plan covers all five engines and includes drafting. A 7-day free trial with no card, and a free audit before that.
Standalone price rendered 26 September 2026; bundle facts from HubSpot's product page and Knowledge Base read 23 September 2026. Marketing Hub tier list prices move, so we do not quote them; HubSpot's pricing page has the current figure. The trial is 28 days with no HubSpot subscription needed.
Prefer is cheaper at entry ($24 against $50) and cheaper per prompt (30 prompts against 25), and its entry plan includes five engines and drafting where HubSpot's includes three engines and recommendations. But the sticker is not the whole story. If you already pay for HubSpot for Marketers or Marketing Hub Pro, AEO costs you nothing extra, and no Prefer plan beats free. The honest question for a HubSpot customer is whether three engines and a recommendation list are enough; if they are, switch HubSpot AEO on. If you need Google's AI surfaces, the content written, or proof that a change worked, that is what the $24 buys.
A free audit runs your real questions through AI engines and shows you the answer today. It takes about ten minutes, and it is useful whichever product you end up buying.
Switching
Most of it is import rather than setup. Your prompt list and competitor set come across; the Google AI surfaces, the drafting and (on Prefer Managed or Enterprise) the off-page execution are new, so there is nothing to migrate there.
Fig 6Numbers rarely match exactly between AI visibility tools. Different prompt sets, sampling windows and parsing rules produce different figures for the same brand. What should match is direction.
Which to choose
HubSpot AEO first It is included in your plan, so switch it on. Add Prefer when you need Google's AI surfaces or the content written, and Prefer Managed when you want off-page work done.
Prefer At $24 against $50, Prefer costs less, tracks five engines instead of three, and includes the drafting that HubSpot's standalone plan leaves with you.
Prefer Google AI Overviews and AI Mode sit on top of the results you already optimise for, and only one of the two tools tracks them. Crawler logs and coverage scoring are the rest of the case, plus deployed fixes on Prefer Managed.
HubSpot AEO Prompt suggestions built from CRM data and recommendations delivered beside contacts and campaigns are a genuine convenience Prefer does not match.
Prefer The verification loop is the difference between reporting activity and proving movement, and only one of the two products closes it. Terms defined

Prefer tracks five engines on every plan, including Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, writes 15 AI articles a month from its $24 entry plan and re-runs affected prompts after every change to record the outcome; Prefer Managed and Enterprise also execute off-page work (citations, PR, community). HubSpot AEO tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity with 25 prompts a day for $50 a month, and delivers prioritised recommendations inside HubSpot; drafting exists only in the Marketing Hub bundle.
Yes. Prefer covers everything HubSpot AEO measures and adds two engines, the content production and the verification loop, with off-page execution on Prefer Managed and Enterprise. HubSpot AEO counters with a price of zero for existing Marketing Hub customers, CRM-based prompt suggestions, and a brand that two of the most-cited buyer's guides rank first.
Prefer at entry: $24 a month for 30 prompts on five engines with drafting included, against HubSpot AEO's $50 a month (or $45 billed annually) for 25 prompts on three engines with recommendations. Per prompt that is under a dollar against $2.00. If AEO is already included in your HubSpot plan, HubSpot is cheaper, because it is free.
ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, per its product page and its Knowledge Base at the checked-on dates. Neither lists Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Claude or Copilot. Prefer tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode on every plan.
25 prompts a day on the $50 standalone plan and on Marketing Hub Professional, with 2,500 answers a month; 50 prompts and 5,000 answers on Marketing Hub Enterprise, per HubSpot's docs. You can add more prompts to the list and buy more tracked prompts anytime. Prefer's plans run from 30 to 500 tracked prompts, each run on all five engines.
Not a free plan, but a 28-day free trial with no HubSpot subscription required, plus two free tools: the AI Search Grader, a one-time score out of 100, and the AI Search Sensor, an industry-level benchmark dashboard. Prefer has no free plan either; it offers a free audit and a 7-day free trial with no card, then starts at $24 a month.
TechRadar's tested roundup (30 July 2026) names it the top pick and TechnologyAdvice scores it 4.70 out of 5, first of eight. Both guides weigh price, ease of setup and the HubSpot integration heavily, and both placements sit beside a sponsored or featured-partner box, which the pages disclose. Prefer does not appear in either guide, so treat those rankings as a view of the tools they tested.
Paste your prompt list and competitors, let Prefer rebuild the baseline across all five engines for about three days, then connect your CMS (HubSpot's is fine) and, on Prefer Managed or Enterprise, the off-page scope. If AEO is included in your HubSpot plan, keep it running; most teams overlap for a month before deciding.

Something wrong here? Tell us and we will fix itThe real difference
HubSpot AEO does the first half of the job well, and its docs are honest about the second half: it tells you what to create or update. The rest of the loop is where the two products part ways.
Track prompts across engines, count mentions and citations, watch competitors. HubSpot on three engines, Prefer on five.
HubSpot shows citation analysis and channel insights. Prefer adds crawler-log analysis, per-page coverage scoring and fanout mapping.
HubSpot's prioritised recommendations and Prefer's ranked action queue both turn findings into a list of work.
Prefer drafts on every plan, and Prefer Managed deploys technical fixes and executes citations, PR and community off-site. HubSpot drafts a blog post inside Marketing Hub; the standalone plan recommends.
The affected prompts re-run after publish. The action closes as a win or a miss, and misses re-score the check that suggested them.
The honest summary: HubSpot AEO is a well-priced measurement layer for HubSpot customers, and the guides that rank it first are ranking it on that. The gap is how many engines are watched, how much of the work gets done, and whether anyone proves it moved the number.
