The short answer

Is FAQ schema still worth adding?

Is FAQ schema still worth adding in 2026?

FAQ schema is FAQPage structured data, usually written as JSON-LD, that labels the questions and answers on a page. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in Search from May 7, 2026, so the markup no longer earns the expandable questions under your listing. It is still valid schema.org, and Google still says it uses structured data to understand what a page contains. Google also says no special markup is needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. So treat FAQ schema as accurate labelling of a real FAQ section, not as a route into rich results or AI answers. If a page already shows questions and answers, adding it takes two minutes.

What it does

What it builds, and what it checks.

The output is one FAQPage object in the structure schema.org defines. The checks catch the mistakes that usually slip into a hand-written FAQ block.

01
FAQPage JSON-LD

One FAQPage object, with each question as a Question and its answer as an acceptedAnswer, wrapped in a ready-to-paste script tag.

02
Bulk paste

Paste an existing FAQ as blocks, the question on the first line and the answer below it, and it splits them into pairs for you.

03
Half pairs left out

A question with no answer, or an answer with no question, is dropped from the output and flagged, so you never publish half a pair.

04
Repeated questions

The same question twice is flagged. It usually means a copy and paste slip, and it makes the block harder to trust.

05
HTML in the text

Tags inside a question or answer are flagged, so you can decide whether you meant to include them. Plain text is the safe default.

06
Safe script output

A closing script tag inside your text is escaped, so no answer can break out of the script block and into your page.

How to use it

From questions to valid JSON-LD in about a minute.

No account and nothing to install. Use the same words the page shows.

01
Add your questions
Type each question and its answer, or paste the FAQ from your page in bulk. Keep the wording identical to what a visitor reads.
02
Read the checks
Fix anything flagged: an empty answer, a repeated question, or HTML you did not mean to include.
03
Copy the script
Copy the script tag, or download it as a file for your developer or CMS. It is complete FAQPage JSON-LD.
04
Add it to the same page
Paste it into the head or body of the page that shows these questions. JSON-LD works in either place.

The markup must match what a visitor can read on the page. Google's structured data guidelines say not to mark up content that is not visible.

What good looks like

A real FAQ, labelled accurately, on its own page.

Valid JSON-LD is the easy part. These are the things that decide whether the markup is honest and useful.

Every question is on the page

Each question and answer in the markup is visible to a visitor, in the same words. Invented or hidden FAQs are the fastest way to get markup ignored.

You wrote the answers

FAQPage is for a page where you publish the answers. A forum thread or a page where users post answers is a different type, QAPage.

One FAQ lives on one page

Repeating the same FAQ markup across the whole site describes the wrong pages. Add it only where the questions actually appear.

Each answer stands on its own

An answer that reads correctly when lifted out alone is easier for any reader, human or model, to quote. That is a writing choice, not a markup trick.

Your expectations are current

Google shows no FAQ rich results since May 7, 2026. Add the markup for clarity, not for extra space in the search results.

Questions

FAQ schema questions.

What is FAQ schema?

FAQ schema is structured data, written with the schema.org FAQPage type, that labels a list of questions and their answers on a page. It is usually added as JSON-LD inside a script tag, separate from the visible HTML, so machines can read the question and answer structure directly.

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?

No. Google's Search Central changelog says the FAQ rich result would no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026, and Google removed its FAQ rich result documentation in June 2026. Before that, from August 2023, the feature was limited to well-known, authoritative government and health websites.

Is FAQ schema still worth adding?

Only where a page really has questions and answers. The markup is still valid schema.org and Google says it uses structured data to understand page content, but it no longer earns a visual feature in Google Search. It takes two minutes, so it is fine hygiene on a genuine FAQ section. It is not worth building FAQ sections just to carry the markup.

Does FAQ schema help you get cited in AI answers?

There is no published evidence that it does. Google says no special schema.org markup is needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no AI assistant has said FAQPage markup earns citations. What gets a page quoted is a clear, self-contained answer that is worth citing, a clean brand entity, and presence on the sources engines already trust.

Where do I put FAQ schema?

Paste the script tag into the head or body of the same page that shows the questions. JSON-LD works in either place. Do not add it sitewide, because the markup has to describe the page it sits on.

What is the difference between FAQPage and QAPage?

FAQPage is for a page where the site publishes the questions and the answers, like a product FAQ. QAPage is for a page built around one question where users submit answers, like a forum or community thread. Pick the one that matches who wrote the answers.

Is the FAQ schema generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no signup, and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded. Prefer's paid plans are for the next step: measuring whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews actually cite you, and doing the work to change that.
