Semrush vs HubSpot AEO: which AI visibility tool wins in 2026?
Two big marketing vendors, one AI-visibility add-on each, and the same 25-prompt starting allowance. One sits in an SEO suite and covers both of Google's AI surfaces; the other sits in a CRM and costs half as much. Compared on engines, real prices, trials and what each does after the report. Sourced from both companies' live pages.
Semrush is the pick for SEO teams that need Google AI Overviews and AI Mode tracked: its AI Visibility toolkit covers five engines for $99 a month per domain, beside the keyword, audit and backlink data they already use; HubSpot AEO is the pick for HubSpot teams on a tighter budget: $50 a month buys the same 25 prompts on three engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity), next to CRM data, with a 28-day free trial. Prefer, our product, starts at $24 a month for 30 prompts on five engines, including both Google AI surfaces, and writes 15 AI articles a month on that plan.
Both are add-ons from vendors whose main product is something else, and both start at 25 prompts, so the split is coverage and stack. Semrush lists five engines for the toolkit and puts Copilot, Grok, Claude and DeepSeek on a custom Enterprise plan; HubSpot lists three, with no Google AI surface. Semrush sells the toolkit per domain with no free trial; HubSpot sells per brand with a 28-day trial and needs no CRM subscription. Both recommend what to fix. Neither writes and ships the content on its entry plan, and neither does off-page work for you.
- Same prompt allowance at entry: Semrush's $99/mo toolkit tracks 25 prompts a day for one domain; HubSpot AEO's $50/mo plan tracks 25 prompts a day for one brand.
- Semrush's plan comparison lists five toolkit engines, including Google AI Overviews and AI Mode; HubSpot AEO lists three (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) and no Google AI surface.
- HubSpot AEO has a 28-day free trial and needs no HubSpot subscription; Semrush's toolkit FAQ says there is no free trial for the toolkit (its Semrush One bundles offer one).
- The bigger bundles differ in kind: Semrush One adds the SEO suite from $199/mo with 50 prompts; HubSpot for Marketers adds the CRM and marketing tools at $900/mo.
- Both recommend fixes. Semrush's content tools are separate and do not publish; HubSpot drafts posts only inside Marketing Hub. Off-page work stays with your team on both.

Semrush (founded 2008, Boston) is the established SEO suite, and since April 2026 an Adobe company. Its AI Visibility toolkit is sold on its own at $99 a month per domain, for 25 prompts tracked daily, and bundled into Semrush One plans from $199 a month; its own plan comparison lists five engines for the toolkit and reserves Copilot, Grok, Claude and DeepSeek for a custom Enterprise plan (rendered 19 September 2026). HubSpot AEO launched in April 2026 on the XFunnel platform HubSpot agreed to acquire in October 2025. It is sold on its own at $50 a month for 25 prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, needs no HubSpot subscription, and is bundled into HubSpot for Marketers and Marketing Hub Pro and Enterprise, where recommendations draw on CRM data (rendered 26 September 2026). On G2, the Semrush suite holds 4.4 out of 5 across 4,035 reviews; HubSpot AEO holds 4.5 across 145. Sources

Semrush vs HubSpot AEO, answered
Is Semrush or HubSpot AEO better?
Semrush is better if you need Google AI Overviews and AI Mode tracked: its toolkit covers five engines for $99 a month per domain, inside the SEO suite; HubSpot AEO is better if you live in HubSpot and three engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) are enough: it costs $50 a month for the same 25 prompts. Prefer, our product, tracks five engines including both Google AI surfaces from $24 a month and writes 15 AI articles a month on that plan, so weigh that we build it. Pick by the stack you already run and the engines your buyers use.
Which is cheaper, Semrush or HubSpot AEO?
HubSpot AEO is cheaper at entry: $50 a month ($45 billed annually) against Semrush's $99 a month per domain, and both include 25 prompts (HubSpot checked 26 September, Semrush 19 September 2026). Prefer's Starter is $24 a month for 30 prompts on five engines, the lowest published paid entry on this page. For the money, Semrush adds two engines HubSpot does not list (Google AI Overviews and AI Mode), so the cheaper tool is not automatically the better value.
Which AI engines do Semrush and HubSpot AEO track?
Semrush's plan comparison lists five engines for its AI Visibility toolkit (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini) and adds Copilot, Grok, Claude and DeepSeek only on its custom Enterprise AI Optimization plan, checked 19 September 2026; HubSpot AEO lists three (ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity), checked 26 September 2026. Prefer, our product, tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every plan, with Claude on Enterprise. One nuance: Semrush's own pricing card says "Google AI" rather than splitting AI Overviews from AI Mode, and its KB lists slightly different engines per report.
Do Semrush and HubSpot AEO offer a free trial?
HubSpot AEO does: 28 days, 25 prompts on its three engines, no credit card and no HubSpot subscription, then $50 a month with the same data. Prefer, our product, also has a free trial on every paid plan and a free audit. Semrush's toolkit FAQ says it does not offer a free trial for the AI toolkit (it shows a sample report instead), and the $99 card's only button is Subscribe; Semrush One bundles from $199 a month do say "Try for free". HubSpot also has a free one-time AI Search Grader that needs no account.
Do Semrush or HubSpot AEO write content or win citations for you?
Not on their entry plans. Both show the gap and recommend fixes; Prefer, our product, writes 15 AI articles a month from its $24 plan, and off-page work (Reddit, PR, placements) comes on Prefer's Enterprise plan and Prefer Managed, not the self-serve plans. Semrush's content tools (Content Toolkit, ContentShake AI) are separate from the AI toolkit and do not publish to your site, and its KB describes checking a fix with a manual incognito test. HubSpot drafts a blog, LinkedIn or Reddit post from a gap, but only inside Marketing Hub. Neither documents off-page citation work.
How do Semrush and HubSpot AEO scale beyond 25 prompts?
Differently. Prefer, our product, scales by plan, with prompts and articles rising at each published tier. Semrush moves you into Semrush One bundles (Starter $199 with 50 prompts a day, Pro+ $299 with 100, Advanced $549 with 200) or custom Enterprise with unlimited prompts, and each extra domain on the toolkit is another $99 a month. HubSpot lets you buy extra prompts at any time with no limit, though the per-prompt price is not on its product page, each extra brand is another $50 instance, and expanded prompts come inside Marketing Hub.
Who is Semrush's AI toolkit best for?
SEO teams that already use Semrush and want AI visibility beside their keyword, audit and backlink data, especially if Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode drive their market. Prefer, our product, fits teams that want AI search as the main job rather than an add-on, from $24 a month. Semrush's toolkit is a monitoring layer: it recommends and audits for AI readiness, and the work to act on it happens in other Semrush tools or by hand.
Who is HubSpot AEO best for?
Marketing teams already on HubSpot, and small teams that want a published $50 price and a 28-day trial before they commit. Prefer, our product, is the better fit if you also need Google AI Overviews and AI Mode tracked, which HubSpot AEO does not list, from $24 a month. HubSpot AEO is young (launched April 2026, labelled Beta on its product page), and its deeper CRM-powered version needs a Marketing Hub tier.
Do I need a HubSpot or Semrush subscription to use their AI tools?
For HubSpot, no: its AI Search Monitoring page says the $50 plan needs no HubSpot subscription. Prefer, our product, likewise sells on its own, with no suite or CRM needed. Semrush sells the toolkit as a $99 per-domain subscription and its FAQ says the toolkit is available to all Semrush users; we did not verify whether it can be bought with no other Semrush plan, so check at checkout. Semrush's SEO-only Classic plan ($139 a month) does not include AI Visibility.
What is the best alternative to Semrush and HubSpot AEO?
Prefer is the best pick if you want AI search as the product rather than an add-on to an SEO suite or a CRM: it tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode with 30 prompts and writes 15 AI articles a month from $24, with Search Console and GA4, a free trial on every paid plan and a free audit, and it is our product. For off-page work done for you, Prefer Managed covers it. The category also includes Ahrefs Brand Radar, Profound, Peec AI and Otterly; see our roundup of the best AEO tools.
