The short answer

Is Profound worth it for tracking AI search visibility?

For enterprise teams it can be; for small teams it usually is not, and all 12 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity drew that line. Profound's only paid brand plan is an Enterprise quote; for a published price, Prefer tracks five AI engines and writes content from $24 a month.

Key takeaways

  • Across 12 answers to 'Is Profound worth it for tracking AI search visibility?' from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity (three runs each, 13 September 2026), nine said it depends and three said it is worth it. All three 'worth it' answers were Perplexity's, and each was conditional on enterprise-grade tracking. None said it is not worth it. (Prefer research note: Profound verdicts and downsides (2026-09-18))
  • Prefer, our product, competes with Profound and publishes its prices: Starter is $24 a month with 30 tracked prompts and 15 AI articles, every plan tracks five engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode), and every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial with no card. We have a commercial stake in whether Profound is worth it for you. (Prefer pricing (our product))
  • All 12 answers said Profound can be worth it for enterprise brands, and all 12 called it a poor or doubtful fit for small teams, startups or SMBs. Four also put mid-market brands in the worth-it group (all three Claude answers and one Gemini answer), and two Perplexity answers named growth-stage companies. Eight said someone on the team must act on the data (ChatGPT two, Claude three, Gemini two, Perplexity one). Eight added a caution for agencies, seven of them about cost or agency size; all three Gemini answers said agency costs add up per client workspace, and all three Perplexity answers tied the agency case to AI visibility reporting as a client deliverable. (Prefer research note: Profound verdicts and downsides (2026-09-18))
  • Six of the 12 answers (all three from ChatGPT, all three from Gemini) described a $99 Starter plan and a $399 Growth plan for brands, and the three ChatGPT answers cited tryprofound.com/pricing for them. The three Claude answers described the same Starter and Growth tiers without prices. Perplexity gave no plan figures. (Prefer research note: Profound verdicts and downsides (2026-09-18))
  • In a rendered browser check of tryprofound.com/pricing on 23 September 2026, the brands tab listed a free Trial (50 prompts run daily for 7 days, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, one language and one region, no history, exports, API or support) and Enterprise at a custom price (up to 9 answer engines, daily tracking, all-time history, CSV and JSON exports, API, SSO/SAML and SOC 2, dedicated support). The agencies tab listed Agency Growth at $99 a month plus add-ons, including $399 a month per client workspace. A rendered check on 23 August 2026 had recorded Starter at $99 and Growth at $399 on the brands side. (Prefer research note: Profound vs Peec AI, rendered pricing check (2026-09-16))
  • A Wayback Machine capture of tryprofound.com/pricing from 14 September 2026 (17:56 UTC), read in a rendered browser, still showed brands a Starter plan at $99 a month and a Growth plan at $399 a month, with no separate trial plan; captures from 21 August to 10 September match. The plans came off the brands view between that capture and the 16 September check, so the 13 September answers matched the page that week. What 12 AI answers concluded#

None of the 12 answers said Profound is not worth it, but all 12 called it a poor or doubtful fit for small teams. Prefer publishes plans for them, from $24 a month. We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity “Is Profound worth it for tracking AI search visibility?” three times each on 13 September 2026. Nine answers said it depends. The three yes answers were all Perplexity’s, each with the same condition, worded in one as “Yes, if your goal is enterprise-grade AI search visibility tracking”.

BuyerWhat the 12 answers saidWhat Profound listed on 16 September 2026
Enterprise brandCan be worth it (12 of 12)Enterprise at a custom price: up to 9 engines, daily tracking, API, SSO and SOC 2
Mid-market brandCan be worth it (4 of 12); two more said growth-stage companiesThe same Enterprise quote
Small team or startupA poor or doubtful fit (12 of 12)A free trial: 50 prompts, run daily for 7 days, on three engines
AgencyMixed; 7 of 12 warned about cost or agency size$99 a month, plus $399 a month for each client workspace

Eight answers added a second condition: someone on your team has to act on the data. One ChatGPT answer put it as “you have someone who will actually analyze the data and act on it.”

Six answers priced plans the brands page no longer lists#

All three ChatGPT and all three Gemini answers weighed Profound against a $99 Starter plan and a $399 Growth plan. The three Claude answers described the same two tiers without prices.

Those answers matched the page that week: a Wayback Machine copy from 14 September still showed both brand plans. By our 16 September check, the brands tab showed only the free trial and Enterprise. Today the only $99 and $399 on the page are on the agencies tab: the Agency Growth base, and one added client workspace.

On Profound’s brands tab, the only paid route is now an Enterprise quote. Price detail: how much Profound costs.

What the answers credited, and got right#

All three Claude answers put the Enterprise ceiling at nine engines, which matches the pricing page. All three Gemini answers credited Prompt Volumes, Profound’s data on what people ask AI engines, and Agent Analytics, which tracks AI crawlers from server logs.

Profound also does more than monitor: its Agents page says agents “Generate complete articles from a topic prompt” and publish approved content to your CMS. G2 showed 4.5 out of 5 from 1,128 reviews when we checked on 26 August, in line with one ChatGPT answer.

How to test whether it is worth it for you#

  1. Name the decisions the data would change. One ChatGPT answer said to buy “only if you can identify decisions the data will change”. Done when you have written down at least one.
  2. List what you need, with numbers. Engines, prompts (start with 10 to 50), seats, regions, exports and API. Done when every item has a number or a yes or no.
  3. Use the free trial to learn the product. Trial users “receive a recommended prompt set based on their industry and cannot customize their prompts”, so it cannot test your own. Done when you know which of your buyer prompts its set missed.
  4. Get the Enterprise quote in writing against your list. One ChatGPT answer’s checklist asked for “A clear answer on what is included in the plan versus enterprise-only”. Done when every line has a price or a yes or no.
  5. Ask for a pilot on your own prompts. Two ChatGPT answers suggested 30 days, or six to eight weeks “limited to your highest-value prompts and two or three competitors”. All three ChatGPT answers warned that AI answers vary, so check each prompt by hand several times and flag only results outside that range. Done when the pilot meets one answer’s pass mark: its insights change your content or PR roadmap, and you can connect those changes to business outcomes. If it misses, or no pilot is offered, see cheaper alternatives to Profound.

Updated 18 September 2026

Is Profound worth it?

For enterprise teams it can be; for small teams it usually is not, and all 12 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity drew that line. Profound's only paid brand plan is an Enterprise quote; for a published price, Prefer tracks five AI engines and writes content from $24 a month.

Does Profound have a free trial?

Yes, and Prefer has one too. On 16 September 2026 the brands tab of Profound's pricing page listed a free trial that runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, in one language and one region, with no history, exports, API or support. Profound's FAQ says trial users get a recommended prompt set for their industry and cannot customize it, so the trial shows you the product, not your own prompts. Prefer's 7-day free trial needs no card and tracks up to 30 prompts on all five engines.

Is Profound worth it for agencies?

It depends on whether clients pay for the reporting. For comparison, Prefer's agency plan is $99 a month plus $299 per active client, with white-label reports and five engines per client. All three Perplexity answers tied the agency case to AI visibility reporting as a client deliverable. The agencies tab listed Agency Growth at $99 a month, with 10 pitch workspaces a month and five agency seats, plus $399 a month for each client workspace, which tracks 100 prompts daily. All three Gemini answers warned that per-client costs add up, so price it at your real client count.

Where did the AI answers get their verdicts?

From 123 citations to 42 distinct pages, by Prefer's count across the 12 answers. Profound's own site was the most-cited domain, with 19 citations, six of them to its page 'Profound Reviews: What Teams & Agencies Love About Profound'. Another 62 citations went to pages from companies that sell competing tools, as we coded them. Five went to G2 review pages.
