• AthenaHQ Essential is free with 300 credits across five models, and it stays usable rather than expiring after a trial window.
• AirOps has a free Solo start, though it tracks ChatGPT insights only.
• Free one-off checkers exist too: Ahrefs publishes one at ahrefs.com/ai-visibility-checker, and Otterly runs a free checker alongside a subdomain of roughly 14 free GEO tools.

What “free” leaves out, the catch#

Free tiers trade coverage, volume or continuity for a way in, so read what each one actually includes. The word “free” is doing different jobs across these tools:

• A snapshot is not monitoring. The free checkers from Ahrefs and Otterly show you today’s picture. Because AI answers shift run to run, a one-off check cannot tell you a trend, which is the number that matters.
• Free tiers cap the important things. AirOps’ free start is ChatGPT only; free plans generally limit engine coverage and prompt volume before you hit anything useful at scale.
