Yes. Prefer offers MCP (Model Context Protocol) access on its Growth, Scale and Enterprise plans, so an AI assistant that supports MCP can query your Prefer data and build reporting workflows. You generate an MCP key under Settings, then Integrations. The same plans include API access. Last updated 3 October 2026 Yes. Prefer offers MCP access, and it starts on the Growth plan. With it, Prefer data becomes something you can ask about from the AI assistant you already work in, instead of a dashboard you have to open. This page covers what MCP is, what you can ask, and how to set it up.

What MCP is, in plain words

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call another product’s tools and read its data. Instead of writing code against an API, you connect a key once and then ask in plain language. The assistant works out which data to fetch. For Prefer, the data behind it is the same data the dashboards use: tracked prompts, the brands each answer names, the URLs each engine cites, sentiment, and the scores built from them across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.

Questions you can ask once it is connected

The Integrations docs say MCP access lets you query data and build custom workflows, and suggest it when a team wants to automate reporting or bring Prefer data into internal tools. In practice that looks like:
  • “Which 10 prompts did we lose Share of Voice on since the previous run?”
  • “List the prompts where a named competitor is cited and we are not.”
  • “Which domains does Perplexity cite most for our category?”
  • “Draft a monthly summary of our Visibility Score by engine.”
MCP is the fastest route from a question about your AI visibility to an answer, with no export and no code. Check the numbers it returns against the dashboard the first few times, as you would with any new report.

How to set it up in 4 steps

  1. Open Settings, then Integrations, in your Prefer workspace.
  2. Go to the API & MCP section and generate an MCP key.
  3. Add the key to your MCP-compatible assistant or editor, following that tool’s own setup for remote MCP servers.
  4. Test it with a simple question, such as your latest Visibility Score, and compare it with the Overview.
Treat the key like a password: keep it out of shared docs and public repos.

Which plans include it

Agency Enterprise lists “Full API + MCP access”. If you need your own code to pull the data rather than an assistant, read does Prefer have an API. The API and MCP access page covers the wider integration layer. To see the data you would be querying, run a free AI visibility audit.

Frequently asked questions

No. Prefer’s /pricing comparison lists MCP access as not included on Starter. It starts on Growth and is included on Scale and Enterprise, alongside API access.
Prefer’s MCP access is for an AI assistant: you ask a question in plain words and the assistant queries Prefer for you. The full API is for your own code, which calls Prefer directly to feed dashboards or pipelines. Prefer includes both from Growth up.
Prefer’s docs describe MCP access as a way to query data and build custom workflows. Publishing goes through Content Studio and the CMS integration inside the Prefer app, so plan on MCP for reading and reporting.
