Yes. Prefer’s Content Gap report checks every tracked prompt against your latest tracking run and indexed pages, flags prompts where you have no owned page that ranks or gets cited, names the competitors AI cites instead, and suggests a brief you can send straight to Create Content. Yes, and it works from your tracked prompts

Prefer finds content gaps by checking each prompt you track against the AI answers it returned and the pages on your site, then flagging the prompts where you have nothing that ranks or gets cited. The report is called Content Gap and lives in the app under Act, then Content Studio, then Content Gap. It is computed fresh from your latest completed tracking run each time you open it, so it never drifts from what the engines actually said. A gap here is narrower and more useful than a generic topic list. It is a specific buyer question, already in your prompt set, where an AI engine answered without you.

What the report shows

  • Overall coverage. A half-gauge showing what share of your tracked prompts you already cover with owned or cited content.
  • Per-prompt coverage. Every tracked prompt with a coverage ring, query count, content type and intent.
  • Missing prompts. Prompts where your brand has zero visibility in AI answers.
  • Competitor ownership. Which rivals the engines cite for each missing prompt.
  • Suggested briefs. A recommended page or content angle most likely to win that prompt.
Coverage is answer-weighted, so a high-demand prompt where you are absent pulls the score down more than a niche one. A prompt where you appear inside AI answers counts more than one where you only rank in classic search results. The Content Gap docs note the report uses real tracking data, not simulated estimates. The product page adds a plain-language explanation for each prompt: what AI says about you today, what your pages cover, and the reason a rival gets cited instead. Typical missing pieces are a side-by-side comparison table, a migration guide, or concrete examples a model can quote.

How to turn a gap into a page

  1. Open Content Gap and read the coverage gauge and table.
  2. Click a row with low or zero coverage to open its Gap Report.
  3. Read why the gap exists and which competitors are winning it.
  4. Choose Optimise page if you already have a relevant page, or seed a new draft.
  5. Review the pre-filled brief (prompt, title and URL come across from the report), then run the agent.
  6. Edit the draft, publish it, and wait for the next tracking run to see if the gap closes.

Limits worth knowing

Indexed pages come from your project’s site audit. Pages audited is a plan limit: 50 on Starter, 500 on Growth, 2,000 on Scale and unlimited on Enterprise, per the pricing page. With no audit yet, Prefer starts the indexed count at zero and shows citation gaps only. A gap only closes when the number moves, which is the honest test: the product page says a gap reopens with a revised brief if coverage stays flat after the page ships. Frequently asked questions

No. Prefer measures gaps against AI answers on the prompts you track, and it weights a prompt where you appear in AI answers above one where you only rank in classic search. A keyword gap tool looks at rankings alone.
It helps but is not required. Prefer takes your indexed pages from the project’s audit data; without an audit, the indexed count starts at zero and the report focuses purely on citation gaps from your tracked prompts.
In Prefer, a row at 100 percent means your brand already appears in AI answers for that prompt. Prefer’s docs suggest starting with the low and zero rows, since that is where the fastest gains are.
